West London Girl

Not another lawyer

My track record with lawyers wasn’t good

The Actor sent a message apologising for his behaviour, ‘I’m trying to reach out to the people I hurt and make amends and I realise I wasn’t fair to you.’ I relayed the story to my friend, Sophie, as we took a cab to The St Regis Dubai for a ladies’ dinner. ‘He must think he’s quite the heartthrob,’ I said.
‘I’ve heard about that trick through my boyfriend – when he was single he’d go through his Facebook and message girls with similar apology stories when he was looking for a hook-up.’

Meanwhile, the Musician was wondering when I would next be in London. He forwarded a screen shot of the missed calls from an A-lister friend, who wanted to hang out with him. Perhaps he wanted to tell me that if he was good enough for A-listers, he was good enough for me.

It was only my first week in Dubai and I was beginning to wonder how I would keep up with the city’s work hard, party hard culture. A second friend, Daniel, who was visiting for work, messaged me. Coincidentally, he was staying in the same hotel as me. A former professional rower, he had previously invited me to Henley Regatta when I was dating Graffiti Boy a few years ago, which was the last time I saw him.

Daniel was also a lawyer, who had recently given me advice when I had cheekily messaged him through Facebook. My track record with lawyers wasn’t good. There was the one who wasn’t prepared to ‘jump through hoops for me,’ not to mention the clothes-cutting lawyer ex. ‘Not another lawyer! I think you should avoid him,’ Tom warned me pragmatically.

I met Daniel at our hotel rooftop bar. His banter was playful, he clearly played a lot of sport and his colleagues were charming. After a bit of bar hopping, I was tired and we said our good nights with a peck on the cheek in our hotel lift. When we met again for breakfast, I realised I fancied him. We had one evening left before he headed back to London…

So far, no one’s pulled me up on my PDA…
