Guests dig deep amidst the Music, Magic and Mayhem to support the ClementJames Centre

Award-winning composer and television actor Simon Slater led an all-star cast to raise over £10,000 at The ClementJames Centre’s annual entertainment extravaganza on Wed 18 May. Performing to a sell-out audience, Mamma Mia star Slater had the 200-strong crowd in stitches and singing along, before pulling author Eva Rice—daughter of composer Sir Tim—out of the audience for a surprise appearance too.

Slater was joined at St Clement’s Church, North Kensington by magician Neil Kelso, the colourful singing trio The Spitfire Sisters, and Olivier Award-winning actress Janie Dee. A Streetcar Named Desire star Issy van Randwyck and actress Saskia Wickham also both headlined, while pianist Steve Christie tinkled the ivories throughout the show.

The memorable moments of the night were not just made up of entertainment, but an account of how The ClementJames Centre’s work has helped her by service user Azza Abdalgaffar also gained a huge round of applause.

“I have started to believe I can do something else rather than just sitting at home, which makes me feel much happier. I feel much more a part of the community thanks to The ClementJames Centre.”

Based in one of London’s most deprived areas, The ClementJames Centre provides both employment and education support to its community. The tireless work from its staff and volunteers reduces isolation, poverty and unemployment through a wide range of programmes for the whole family.
