Singer Daniela Brooker shares an embarrassing rollerblading incident and who musically inspires her

Where do you live and why?

I live in Wimbledon with my family. We love living here because we are so near to the city.

Has your family influenced your style of music?

My mum is Venezuelan, so I have a major Latin influence in my music; I’m currently writing a song in Spanish. My dad is very into music, so he introduces me to a lot of old and new stuff.

How do you balance school with music?

I find myself doing all my coursework in lunch breaks and in the studio, so it can all get a bit manic but I am quite an organised person so I keep up to scratch.

What makes you happy?

I know this sounds such a cliché but performing live is when I’m most happy. Going on holiday to a hot exotic island is always a plus, too!

What do you get up to in your free time?

I don’t really get much free time but when I do I sleep or occasionally go out with my friends – they only ever see me late at night!

How would you describe your music?

I call my music powerpop. It is something for everyone. Some tracks are catchy pop songs like Treat a boy bad some are heavily rock influenced like Heart Locked but I also have tracks like Keep on the Good Times which has a Fleetwood Mac feel to it.

What is your favourite park in west London?

Richmond Park. I grew up opposite the entrance to the park and it’s the closest thing to the countryside in London. I have lots of happy childhood memories of bike rides, picnics and walks in the park.

What’s on your iPod?

Everything; I literally have no space for any more music. I have music ranging from Frank Sinatra to Incubus. I’ve just bought the soundtrack to the film Burlesque. I am a big Christina Aguilera fan and I think this album really shows her vocal ability. The album also includes the legendary Cher so it is very entertaining.

Where’s your favourite place to perform in London?

So far my favourite venue has been Café de Paris. I love the fact that it is theatrical and glamorous but it is still cool.

How would you spend an ideal Sunday in west London?

I would lie in, go out for lunch with my family and friends at my favourite restaurant Asia de Cuba in St Martins Lane Hotel and then go to Parsons Green where my recording studio is and work until late on new material.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?

Embarrassing things happen to me every day. I am the most clumsy person you will ever meet. The most embarrassing moment would probably be a couple of years back on my last day of Year 11. My whole year were rollerblading around school when I suddenly fell down a flight of steps and landed (ungracefully) in front of this guy I had a massive crush on. He was part of my school’s university so he was much older and collected than my foolish self. So yes that was very, very embarrassing.

Who do you most admire in the music industry?

I would have to say Beyoncé Knowles. She is so professional in every aspect. Her performances are always on point, she always looks great and you never hear of her having a break down. I mainly admire her because she has built her status on talent not via tabloids.

If you could eat one last meal in west London where would it be?

The High Road Brasserie in Chiswick.

What’s in your secret address book?

If I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret would it?

What’s your philosophy on life?

Don’t take life too seriously, and what you put in you get out.

Where do you live and why?

Having grown up between Islington and Scotland, I’ve lived in Parson’s Green most of my adult life. I love village atmosphere, the mix of ‘country’ pubs, young families, and its proximity to the King’s Road.

How did you get into cooking, is
