Yon-Ka Facial and Blow Dry at Fe Hair and Beauty

The Blurb:

My fairy godmother responsible for all-things-grooming came up trumps today. She (aka Ed) sent me to Fe Hair & Beauty; a small, intimate but long-established salon, in what the locals call Connaught Village. Personally, this area will always remind me of wedding dress shopping as Ritva Westenius fitted me as a princess all those years ago. Today, though, I was to enjoy a Yon-ka facial followed by a hair consultation with blow dry. Nothing has changed too much on the princess front, after all.

The Process:

The facial was performed by Samira Heydari, the founder and owner of Fe. For more than five years the Yon-ka brand has been her preferred supplier for facial beauty products, but her facial itself is utterly personalised by her extensive experience, in-depth knowledge and unique philosophy as to what works and what does not. Since launching in 1957, Yon-ka has earned itself a world-renowned reputation with its unique philosophy – Phytobiointegrity. To you and me, this means benefiting the skin from the plant world; the Yon-ka products are made up of both the fragrant part of the plant and its revitalising essential oils. Samira is serene and the room where she carries out her treatments is a candle-lit haven. Ensuring that both my extremities were in synch, she massaged my feet at both the beginning and end of the treatment. My skin was deeply cleansed, exfoliated, examined and extracted before a heavenly massage and a purifying mask.

Stress is far from your thoughts during any facial but I do sometimes wonder how dreadful my hair will look as I emerge into daylight.  It was great forward thinking on Samira’s part to offer me a blow dry with her top stylist, Angela as my second treat of the day.

Angela was full of searching questions: how did I want my hair to look this evening and then tomorrow morning? She then spent a good 10 minutes examining my hair type, my current hair cut, my colouring habits and how my hair care fits into my daily schedule. She was full of brilliant ideas for future hair plans too. As we are all aware, a true trichologist is scarce to find so I was immediately impressed.

The Result:

Only hours away from party-time, I was relieved to leave Fe with a calm but thoroughly clean face, bouncy big hair and a total feeling of calm. In my opinion, there are two very distinct type of salons: the blue-chip, branded conveyor belt and the Steel Magnolias type. Fe is, without doubt, the latter and as Samira explains: ‘We are just like a big family here’. I am already looking forward to my next visit.
