Q&A: Expert Commentary from Tom Lawman-Butler

question What are the best exercises for the desk-bound? I have constant knots and aching shoulders from typing and am not sure whether exercising would exacerbate or improve this…

answerSitting for long periods of time often leads to muscle tightness on the front of the body and weaknesses on the back.

The best exercises for the deskbound are movements that work the posterior chain, glutes and muscles of the upper back. These include kettlebell swings, stiff leg deadlifts and cable face pulls. A combination of these exercises coupled with a good stretching routine will alleviate any pain in the lower or upper back and help improve posture.
