Unhappy With Your Home? You Don’t Have To Be

Are you unhappy with your home? You don’t have to be. We understand why so many people don’t make changes – either they are too busy, they don’t have a lot of spare money, or anything along these lines. But, if you’re unhappy with your home then the time has come to stop making excuses and start making changes. You do not have to do everything all at once, you can take it bit by bit until it’s finished, but that’s okay.

In this article, we’re going to be looking into some of the different things that you can do to try and make yourself a little happier with your home. If you’re interested in finding out more about this, feel free to read on.

Start In The Garden

We’re going to recommend that you start in the garden, especially if it’s nearing the summer months or if you know that your garden is currently a nightmare. A lot of people leave their outdoor space to get overgrown and become unmanageable, but now is the time to manage it. This is especially true if looking at it isn’t working for you anymore, and it’s bothering you that you can’t use your outdoor area at the moment.

To get started, you need to get control of your grass. Depending on how high you have let it grow, you might find that you need to use another gardening tool to cut the grass before you get your mower over it. Some mowers can get over higher grass than others, so it simply depends on what kind you have got.

When you’ve got control of this, you’ve got two options. You can either continue to maintain it, ensuring that you’re doing this regularly, or you can switch to fake grass, whichever works best for you and your needs. Then you can work on adding furniture and decorations as and when you have the time/money.

Change Up The Kitchen

Have you ever heard the expression ‘the kitchen is the heart of the home’? If not, now you have! It’s true, because you spend so much of your time here, even if you don’t realize it at the moment because life can be so busy. As such, you want to make sure that your kitchen looks good, and is functional, appropriate for you and your needs.

It might be the case that space is old and outdated, which is the last thing anyone wants in this modern world. But, ripping out a whole kitchen and having new fittings put in can cost you an arm and a leg, which most people can’t afford. It’s not a bad thing, it just means that you need to get creative and look into some affordable changes instead. To do this, we recommend looking at your cupboard fronts first, seeing what they look like now and how you would like them to look. Taking them off and putting new ones on is not difficult, and is something you can do yourself, meaning you can either repurpose the ones you have, or purchase new ones.

Bathroom Beauty

You may assume that there isn’t much that can be done with your bathroom but this is far from true. If your bathroom makes you unhappy then you won’t want to spend much time in there at all. This makes bathroom trips a breeze, however, you want to be able to relax at the end of a hard day in the office.

If you only have a shower and you love baths then this could be the main issue you have with your home. Never fear, it can be relatively straightforward to switch this to a bath from a shower, assuming you have the room available. Speak to an expert contractor who can come in and offer you a quote. They will do all the work for you, you will just need to supply the shower or bath.

Sort Out Your Guest Room

If you are lucky enough to have a spare room then you could make this a guest bedroom. If you have people coming over to stay a lot of the time then this will be a handy addition to your home. Gone are the days of needing an airbed for people to sleep on and everyone can hear when they roll over in the night!

If you are wanting to create a guest room then you will need furniture. Sometimes a full size bed isn’t necessary, so why not look at a small double bed instead? This will fulfil the needs of your guests and hopefully be comfy for them to sleep in while they are staying. Make sure you also provide suitable storage for clothing as you don’t want guests to feel like they have to live out of their suitcases.

Declutter Your Space

Finally, your home should be your safe haven. Somewhere you enjoy being and spending time, this is why you need to spend time decluttering. A cluttered home isn’t a fun one to be around and many people have plenty of stuff that lays around the place. However, this can make a room look tiny even if it is huge. Try and find a home for everything that is laying around the place, this could be a cupboard or a drawer.

Don’t be afraid to throw things away when you are decluttering as the chances are you won’t need everything you find. Sometimes, random little items can be kept and found months later when they could have been thrown away or even donated at the time.

A good rule to remember when decluttering your rooms is to sort your items into four piles. These should consist of items you want to keep, donate, throw away, and sell. It is always worth having items to sell then you can make money to put towards your house.
