Abode Living with Lynda Everett

They have an eye for quirky accessories and contemporary lighting.

Meeting Lynda Everett was like catching up with an old friend – albeit talking about pelican lamps and wicker bull heads rather than spotting Lucy Liu in High Street Kensington (I did – twice! Wasn’t stalking, honest…).

Along with Phillipa Brereton, Lynda established Abode in Brighton in 2004 and they opened their Chiswick store three years later. Step through the door and it’s soon evident they have an eye for quirky accessories and contemporary lighting and really do put time and effort into sourcing the products they stock. ‘We’re good at picking out pieces and not going for a “look”, favouring individual items that will actually go in peoples homes,’ she says. ‘We noticed that a lot of retailers don’t provide interesting lighting at the right price so we spend a lot of time on our lighting range to give customers something they’ll be really pleased about.’

Why buy now?

Love designers? Then Abode is your label heaven. Abigail Ahern’s unique animal lamps, cute owl cushions from Donna Wilson, colourful Normann Copenhagen Krenit bowls, gorgeous Missoni throws and even Marimekko tea towels are all to be found in Abode’s wonderfully edited selection of home items. I asked Lynda which is her favourite: ‘I love this Meiha Tsang Peony shade and have one in my own home. Ceiling lights can really add atmosphere and bring a room together. With this Peony shade the laser-cut pattern emits a wonderful multi-layered shadow when alight.’
