'I would recommend this treatment for that awful mid-way period between a cut and colour'

Blo Bar Blowdry at Real Hair

The Blurb:

Tucked behind the bustling King’s Road is Blo, an express blow-dry bar and little sister to salon Real Hair, which is located a few doors down. Blo claims to be the first express hair salon to have a holistic approach to hair at the heart of its offering. As my hair is fine and flyaway, it has generally had the tendency to become either frazzled at the ends or completely static after being heat-treated, so I was definitely ready to test just how healthy my hair would look after a 30-minute blast!

The Process:

The décor echoes Blo Bar’s general ethos – clean, sleek and modern. On the left, a wall of exposed brick and mirrored cabinets and to the right, a wall clad with wooden panelling and to the very end of the salon, the washbasins.

I was greeted by a very smiley Amy, who I must add had impeccably styled hair (always a good sign). She asked me what I was looking for from the blow-dry: movement and body. We proceeded to the washbasins where my hair was washed and conditioned with lush-scented, vitamin-rich products.

My hair was initially treated with a heat spray, half-dried lightly and then brushed out. I always judge a hairstylist by their brushes and Blo got full marks. They only use natural boar bristle brushes which stimulate growth and will only heat up to a certain temperature, therefore avoiding the inevitable scalp burn that metal or plastic bristles create.

Then it was roll-brushed into pin-curls to my head and left to set for about 10 minutes, after which the curls where un-pinned. A quick tousle from Amy and my hair was big and bouncy in an instant. Finally, she slicked on a very light Schwarzkopf hairspray as I was going out in the evening and wanted it to last as long as possible.

The Result:

I couldn’t stop touching my hair afterwards as it was so silky and not static or frazzled at all and my scalp wasn’t sore in the slightest. The fullness dropped a little after a few hours and by the evening I had volume and a little curl left to my poker-straight locks. I would recommend this treatment for that awful mid-way period between a cut and colour where your hair does nothing for you and needs a bit of life injected into it.
