Callender Howorth unveils restoration fusing Arts & Crafts roots with Indian influences

Callender Howorth, specialists in high-end interior design, have revealed their latest renovation project, a restoration of an Arts and Crafts property on Heath Drive in Hampstead to its original splendour, with added integration of modern technology, design elements and features.

The three-storey building, originally constructed by eminent architect CHB Quennell in 1905, had been converted into flats in the late 20th century; updating and returning it to its original format in close consultation with English Heritage and planning authorities took Callender Howorth’s professional team a year and a half.

Award-winning interior designer Mark Howorth led the restoration, focusing on adding light to the property and emphasising the beautiful garden view, while also imbuing the updated Arts and Crafts aesthetic with Indian touches alluding to the client’s heritage. Indian motifs were incorporated into detailing and vintage furniture and decorative pieces obtained from India especially for the multi-layered project.

“The project involved a complete remodeling of the house to create a stunning contemporary family home, whilst being sensitive to the architectural history of the house and its Grade II listed building status,” Howorth said.

“As the images of the completed project bear testament to, the resulting look is a perfect balance of contemporary design with an Indian influence.”
